Activities

Cold Case Files June 16-20
Help solve really cold case files in this camp that explores glaciers, mammoths, saber tooth cats and glyptodonts. Through DNA testing, campers will learn how forensic scientists are solving the mystery of the third greatest extinction. Campers will be taking home a sample of their own DNA as well as other cool projects.

Kitchen Concoctions June 23-27
Your kitchen cabinets and refrigerator will never look the same after this week of kitchen chemistry at MNS. Kids will explore the relationship between salt and ice cream, make bottle rockets, slime and grow crystals. All campers will take home a book of the week’s recipes to continue the learning experience at home.

A Pirate’s Life for Me July 7-11
Yo ho ho, it’s time to set sail on the “MNS Blue Pearl.” Campers will learn about the science of sailing, the archaeology of historic ship wrecks and treasures, the early technology of navigation and the basics of mapmaking. So, live the life of a pirate for a week – sign up quickly or walk the plank!

City Spies July 14-18
Should you choose to accept this mission, you will learn about periscopes and how to make one, how to make and use invisible ink, create and decipher codes and other tricks of the spy trade. Sign up before this message self destructs!

Dinosaur Days July 21-25
Triassic, Cretaceous, Jurassic…those were the days…of the dinosaurs, that is. Campers will make and take home a plaster cast of a fossil, go on a “fossil dig” and learn how to prep fossils in the field for the lab. Learn who the dinosaurs’ neighbors were, and who and what they ate in this week of “paleo” adventure.

Under the Sea July 28-August 1
Find out what sinks your boat or keeps your boat afloat while discovering the under water creatures of the sea. Camp explorers will answer the question of how different colored sand occurs, why the ocean is salty and what glows in the seas. Whales, sharks, jellyfish and turtles bring this camp alive for your future oceanographer.

Best of MNS Discovery Camp 2008 August 4-8
Dive into the best of the MNS Discovery Camp’s cool concoctions from dinosaurs to DNA.

A World of Robots August 11-15 SOLD OUT
Spend a week learning how to program, drive and play interactive games with a robot that you design, assemble and program! Games will include making your robot “sing,” play soccer, follow a race course and pick up objects all on its own. Students from the UTD Engineering program will be the instructors and campers will use the LEGO® Mindstorms NXT kits and brand-new IBM laptops every day. Ages 10 to 12 only please.
